32nd Annual Heats On Event

Volunteer members of St. Cloud Local #539, Minneapolis Local #539, St. Paul Local #455 and Rochester Local #6 provide free home care heating repairs and inspections for senior low-income and disabled homeowners on Saturday, September 30 through the Heat’s On community service program in the Metro, St. Cloud and Rochester. Around 200 union pipe fitters spent their day off helping. It’s this cooperative effort with labor volunteering their skills and contractors donating the use of their trucks and parts that allow this program to continue.

Heat’s On has been helping the community since 1986. According to MN Pipe Trades Association, volunteers have donated more than 34,000 hours of skilled labor, equaling a value of nearly four million dollars. Over the years, just under 8,000 homes have been assisted by nearly 7,000 union member volunteers.

This year, nearly 100 homeowners between St. Cloud to the Twin Cities and Rochester were visited and helped for free.

Gov. Mark Dayton attended the Heat’s On breakfast to recognize and thanks union members for their service to the community, he even signed a proclamation declaring Sept. 30 HEAT’S ON Day across the state.
